Frequently Asked · 07

Questions about this medication

Is Galliprant better than Rimadyl for dogs?
Galliprant works differently from traditional NSAIDs like Rimadyl (carprofen). As a piprant, it specifically targets the EP4 receptor involved in osteoarthritis pain, potentially causing fewer GI and kidney side effects. However, traditional NSAIDs may provide stronger anti-inflammatory effects. Your vet will recommend the best option for your dog.
Can Galliprant be used long-term?
Yes, Galliprant is approved for long-term daily use in dogs with osteoarthritis. It is designed to be a safer option for chronic pain management compared to traditional NSAIDs. Regular veterinary checkups and blood work are still recommended.
How much does Galliprant cost?
Galliprant is generally more expensive than generic NSAIDs like carprofen. The cost varies by dog weight and pharmacy but typically ranges from $50-100+ per month. Some pet insurance plans and pharmacy discount programs can help reduce the cost.
Does Galliprant make dogs drowsy?
Drowsiness is not a common side effect of Galliprant. Unlike some pain medications, Galliprant does not cause sedation. If your dog seems more tired or lethargic after starting Galliprant, it could indicate a side effect that should be discussed with your vet.
